is recruiting new members – NOW!

Do you believe it’s important to have the opportunity to get outdoors to picnic, play, socialise, relax …… keep healthy?  That there needs to be more opportunities to walk, horse ride or cycle instead of having to use the car?  That there is limited opportunity to walk, horse ride or cycle on vehicular free routes?  That public outdoor space and paths provide essential green space for people and wildlife?  That public outdoor access needs to be sensitively managed with regards to agriculture, forestry heritage and environmental management? That there needs to be more routes available for responsible vehicular users?  That good planning & development design incorporates local path networks making Dorset a more pleasant in which to live work and visit?

Would you like to be actively involved in helping to improve public paths and outdoor green space?

Since it was established in 2002, the DLAF has helped make a difference improving and developing outdoor access.  Work includes improving local access benefitting health and disabled access, advising on the route of the Dorset section of the England coast path and commenting on Public Rights of Way provision in new planning development.  But you may have new projects to bring to the Forum?

The forum is an independent, statutory body working with various organisations, for example, all county, town and parish councils; AONBs, National Trust, CLA, Forestry, Defra and Natural England.

We now have vacancies for new members, to represent the following categories:

  • People who enjoy using paths and public green space for recreation and travel;

  • Owners, occupiers and managers of land – esp with open access or PRoW;

  • People with access-related interests, eg tourism, health, environment, disability, planning, heritage, economy, transport.

The forum meets three times a year, with additional training and working groups as required.  Certain expenses and allowances can be claimed.

Dorset Council and Bournemouth, Christchurch  & Poole Council, as appointing authorities, provide support for forum members and the work they do.

If you have the time, experience and enthusiasm to make a valuable and constructive contribution to the work of the forum, an application  pack is available at

The closing date for return of completed application forms is 7th November 2021
