Our new “Priest-in-Charge” of the Watercombe Benefice

At a service on Wednesday 21st September the Reverend David Johnson was “Licensed and Installed” as Priest-in-charge of the Watercombe Benefice (Broadmayne, Owermoigne, West Knighton, Warmwell and Holworth).

As well as the formal processes David was welcomed by representatives of the various villages and we wish him, his wife Shahina, and their children Eliot and Izzy well, as they join our community.

Here are a few words about David, taken from Wednesday’s Order of Service.

After a short career in Software Engineering, David trained for ministry at Ripon College Cuddesdon, Oxford, where he and Shahina married a few months before he was ordained in the Bristol diocese in 1994. He was curate at Holy Trinity, Horfield, and then incumbent at St Michael the Archangel, Two Mile, where their son Eliot was born in 1999.

David became a school chaplain at Haileybury, and moved to Dauntsey’s School in Wiltshire, where their daughter lsabelle (lzzy) was born in 2003.

Both children have moved beyond school years, and David is excited to be returning to the challenges and opportunities of half-time parish ministry, while Shahina continues to run Create Studios in Swindon.

David and Shahina both love walking in beautiful countryside and at the seaside, ideally if a cream tea or pub lunch can be part of the route and look forward to settling into a new life amongst the villages and worshipping communities of the Watercombe Benefice.

David hopes to be a friendly and visible presence in the villages, and that his walks with Shadow, a small and friendly cockapoo, will provide opportunities for conversations: to get to know people better and perhaps even to speak of sharing in the love of God and the life of the Church.

David’s is a part time role and his working days are provisionally to be Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday morning, Saturday afternoon and Sunday. His contact details are: email drjrev@gmail.com, mobile 07341 655530.
