Concert – 26th November

MARTYN JOSEPH returns to BROADMAYNE
In aid of St Martin’s Church

Martyn Joseph is a completely unique and mind-blowing artist. Take everything you think you know about singer songwriters and rip it up. For one man and a guitar he creates a performance with a huge far-reaching sound that is energetic, compelling, and passionate. Be it to two hundred people or twen-ty thousand, he blows the crowd away night after night.

2023 is Martyn’s 31st year in the business, and started with him being part of BBC Radio 2’s “21st Cen-tury Folk “ project, with his song “Albert’s Place” and included appearances on BBC Breakfast TV, the Jeremy Vine and Ken Bruce shows on BBC Radio along with radio 4’s World at One.

He is gifted with the rare ability to speak to the soul with his expressive and poignant lyrics and has a career spanning 30 years, 33 albums, over a half a million record sales and thousands of live performances.

A unique talent driven by passion, social awareness, and love for his trade, he’s a jaw dropping guitar player who has developed a unique percussive style, teamed up with a powerful show stopping voice, and has been called “The Welsh Springsteen”

Concerned with making music that is relevant and vital to his audience, he engages with challenging narratives tackling the complexity of the human condition, underpinned with a promise of hope. In his own words “Really what I do is to try and write songs that might step up and make some sense of a moment in time. A good song makes you feel like you’re not alone in the world.”

Martyn is also founder, along with his wife Justine, of the “Let Yourself Trust”. LYT works alongside Martyn’s music to help give profile to and fund grassroots organizations across the globe. They have given away over half a million pounds to 14 different projects in the last 8 years.

He is hailed as a raconteur weaving tales on topical concerns, as well as stories on the fragility of love, with a magical ability to reach out to his listeners through his passion and humour. Stunning reviews single him out as an unmissable solo performer whose music stays with you long after the show has ended.

Exciting Dance Theatre Show comes to Broadmayne

Aakash Odedra Company – Little Murmur
Thurs 9 Nov, 2:00pm

Broadmayne Village Hall

Tel: 07443 659912 (Tim Clayton)

£7, £5 u18s, £20 fam

Little Murmur is an exciting new dance theatre show featuring ground-breaking projection, an extraordinary soundscape and a blizzard of paper and confetti.

Diagnosed with dyslexia at a young age, Aakash Odedra found school very challenging: he spelt his name wrongly until he was 21 and it wasn’t until he “found the missing ‘A'” that he felt he belonged.

Based on the true story of one child’s struggle with letters and words, Little Murmur combines visual design and technology with dance and humour in an honest and heart felt conversation about the trials and tribulations of living with dyslexia, facing challenges and overcoming the odds. Watch bodies and words fly like flocks of birds, a murmuration, a little murmur.

Cowleaze Road Closure

In order to replace the gas main along Cowleaze Road there will be road closures in force
from Tuesday 24th October, potentially extending to the 11th December.

Access for residents and Village Hall users will be maintained.

For the first two weeks easy access will be from the junction with Chalky Road
and you should approach the hall from that end.

We will update details of access as and when we are advised of any changes.

The works are being undertaken by JDT Utilities on behalf of SGN.

Welcome to our new parish clerk

At the same time as welcoming our new parish clerk we have been saying a very big thank you to Dr Janet Davis who has held the post, serving the council and the village, for 14 years. Janet has been a great support to all the councillors who have served on the council during that time and her much appreciated contribution has aided our work and been of significant value to the village. Janet is not leaving Broadmayne and will continue as our Rights of Way Officer and has offered to help with future projects in the village.

We are very pleased to be welcoming Mr Tim Watton the the role of Clerk to the Council and its Responsible Financial Officer. Broadmayne is very lucky to have appointed Tim, who brings with him seventeen years of experience in a similar role with Lytchett Matravers. We look forward to working with him and benefiting from his input, his evident enthusiasm, and his knowledge.

The role of Clerk and Responsible Financial Officer is much more complex that you would first assume. Tim will be responsible for advising the councillors on their powers, what they can and can’t do, dealing with all the correspondence – including the many consultations that arrive. He will ensure that all legal, statutory, financial, and other governing provisions relating to the Council are observed, and that all Council meetings are properly administered, and decisions effectively implemented. He will assist the councillors with the budgeting process.

It’s a big and important job and we wish Tim well as he gets to know us and Broadmayne.

You can continue to contact the council through Tim – using broadmayne@dorset-aptc.gov.uk or through any Parish Councillor.
