Oral Reports

Dorset Council Ward Member: Dorset Cllr Tarr reflected on the speech at the Annual Parish Meeting by Dorset Council Leader Nick Ireland. He also commented on recent feedback provided by Broadmayne Parish Council on the current Ward Boundary review. He remarked that one of the key issues is to ensure an equitable number of electors per ward. He hoped that each Parish within this ward would make their own comments on the review. The Council Chair noted that the DC Road Safety Team had recently written to advise that the proposed 20mph scheme for Broadmayne had been passed through technical evaluation and would now go forward for the consultation of local residents. This will be held later in the year. He advised Dorset Cllr Tarr that the Parish Council will wish to talk to DC Highways and Road safety Teams about any supporting engineering works which may be necessary, as well as the exact positioning of the signage.
Playing Field Association:
No report due to Cllr Ellis’ absence
Village Hall:
Cllr Eason commented that the next meeting is due to take place on 15th July
DAPTC: Central area committee:

Broadmayne Community Speedwatch:
Cllr Byrne reported on Speedwatch sessions held in May:
Only one session was held; 296 vehicle journeys were observed on Main Street, 17 vehicles were seen speeding and the top speed recorded was 48 mph (three vehicles were seen doing over 40mph).
It was also noted that the Community Speedwatch Group is currently short of volunteers and so has plans in hand for a recruitment campaign, beginning with a stand to be staffed by the police at the Broadmayne Fete later in June.
PCSO:
The monthly report from the Police Community Support Officer had not yet been received.
Performance of grass cutting / grounds maintenance contract:
It had been noted that some areas covered by the contract were being missed or not carried out at the intended frequency. It was reported that in order to address this a meeting was recently held between the contractor’s representative and two Council members. The shortcomings were discussed and a site visit carried out to ensure a clearer understanding of the locations and frequencies. The performance going forward is being closely monitored.

Other matters of report
26/038(a)
The Clerk reported on the following matters:
Allotments: over the past month there had again been no new additions to the waiting list – so there was still just one person on the list actively seeking a plot, whilst they continue to assist an existing plot holder on an informal basis.
An inspection of the condition of the plots was undertaken on 30th May. One tenant whose plot is completely overgrown was given a deadline of 14th June to bring it back into cultivation or to forfeit it. Three other plot holders were emailed to seek their intentions and plans for bringing their plots back into cultivation and deal with the weed nuisance which affects adjacent plots. One has since been in contact to relinquish their plot. Regarding this newly vacated plot, it was agreed to investigate getting it strimmed off and a weed suppressant membrane put over it.
All allotment holders had also been contacted to ask them to remove all loose materials from the roadside bank to enable the Council’s contractor to strim the bank without damaging their equipment or putting the operator at risk.
Condition of footpaths: The bridge on the Right of Way between Washponds and West Knighton is in the final stages of replacement.
Highways faults reported: The blocked drains in Osmington Drove have been reported on the DC Highways faults reporting system.
Road works: The following notifications of temporary road closures to enable safe working for contractors have been received from DC Highways during the past month:
Temporary closure of the A353 at Poxwell for up to 5 days from 18th May. Main Street was part of the official signed diversion route.
Temporary closure of the A353 at Grove Hill, Osmington between 09:30 and 15:30, originally scheduled to start on 28th May until 1st June has been postponed until a later date (as yet not specified). Main Street Broadmayne forms part of the signed

The Chairman noted that DC Highways have scheduled surface treatment during July on the West Stafford bypass.
26/038(c)
Cllr Byrne remarked that he had reported on the DC Highways faults portal faded yellow road line markings on the A352 at the east end of the village, and a faded white line adjacent to the Black Dog PH.
Cllr Eason reported that he had taken some action, for safety reasons, to erect a temporary barrier to block the hole in the hedge to the memorial area on the corner of Chalky Rd and Cowleaze. It is intended to plant some new hedging there in the autumn.
